5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Authors! Fantastic Short Cat Stories! Would give 10 Stars if I Could! For Cat Lovers of all kinds!
By Valerie Roberson on October 31, 2016
This book consists of 16 short cat stories. Each story is completely different but yet the same. Each story is written by a different author that makes them unique. Every author has their own style of writing and it really shows here in this book. Their stories have covered a lot of different Genera. Each story is exciting in their own way.
These are very talented authors who took the time to put a book together for cat lovers. If you don't like cats, but like short stories, then this book is for you also. It is way more than just cats. This book isn't about your every day house cat, like mine who sat with me as I read this book and looks a lot like the cover. It covers all types of cats from around the world.
Kelly A. Harrmon and Vonnie Winslow Crist did a fantastic job editing this book and bringing it all together. It has been a real pleasure to be able to read this book and give an honest review. I have written below 16 reviews for each short story. They are so unique, that each one needs to have it's own review.
A Pinch of Chaos by Christine Lucas *****
When you loose a pet dear to your heart, you find that, that said pet had a huge impact in your life. It turned it upside down. But you don't realize this until after the pet is gone.
Ankhu lost his cat to the Gods. His name was Nedjem, Ankhu's servent Khemes was beside himself to see his master in such grief and pain. Khemes sought out to find Ta-Mlute a healer to have her bring back the cat from the dead. She gave him herbs to do the magic spell to bring the cat back. He tried several times, but nothing. On the last try and last bit of herbs, the wind took the herbs. He followed them to a Momma cat with kittens. Could one of them be Nedjem?
This short story takes place in the Nile. As the author told the story, I could feel the hot sun. I felt the anguish to find the healer. But most of all, I was so heart broken for Ankhu. If I lost my Oliver, I would be the same way, but worse.
Oliver and I thought that this was a good story, good writing and good ending!

Three Wizards and A Cat by A.L. Sirois ****
This short story was an adventure that reminded me of Steampunk. The rooner cat had something a young girl wanted and was chasing it. As Rali discover that the girl is the daughter of the man that he is searching for that owes his employer money, he goes after both of them. Paragliding from a ship to the ground after Rali made a deal with the cat to work together, the girl followed. When they were all together on the ground, the cat wasn't what it seemed to be.
Good story line, but too many big words that took away from the simplicity of the story. Over all I really ,liked the story.

Tenth Life by Doug C. Souza *****
They say a cat has 9 lives, but some have 10 or more. Can a cat live or toy save people from inside a collapsed building? Can a toy cat look, sound, act and feel like a real cat? And which is better, a live cat or a toy that is just as real as a live one? And are toy cats smarter then live cats?
This at the edge of your seat, little story covers just that. Put together very well, it is a believable story. Yes, it takes place some where else then Earth. But could it really happen here? Can people survive a fall out and have the cats show them the way through a collapsed building to a rescue team looking for survivors.
Read it and ask yourself the question!

The Canticle of Grimalkin by R.S. Pyne *****
This story could almost be a fairy tail by the way it is told. The cat's master is a leather worker with his nephew and a friend under him. The cat brings his master presents, but come to find out, they are not mice or rats. To get revenge for this, the leather maker's nephew paid the price. Or did the cat plan it that way? The creature that the cat would bring was aganist the law and the cat new it. The cat and the worker hated the leather master's nephew and wanted to get ride of him. You will find a few twists and turns here. Good Story!

The Brizilian Cat by Sie Autrhor Canon Doyle *****
This big beautiful black cat was raised from a kitten by Everard King or cousin Marshall. Tommy the cat is named, is a Brazilian cat. Caged in the basement and only receptive to his master, cousin Marshall, did say that he will befriend the person of who's blood he tastes.
Now Sir Author Conan Doyle is the descendant of Lord Southerton, the riches family of all England. But Sir Author has found himself in a need for money, even though his Father left him enough so he didn't have to work a day in his life.
Thinking that his cousin, who he never meet before, would surely help him. So he sets out on his mission to see his cousin. He is welcomed with open arms, except from his cousin's wife. He tells him his trouble and before he knows it, he is face to face with the big black cat Tommy. His cousin betrayed him and left him to die with Tommy.
The ending to this short story comes out of left field and is brilliant. It left me speechless and totally at awe. A must read!

The Cat of Nerio-3 by Steven R. Southard ****
Nerio-3 is an old space station. Lani ( human ) and Page ( future robot ) was hired to rid it of the cats and mice. Page being an AI is far more superior than Lani and called the shots. Drones were sent in to tranquilize the cat's when they came on the screen, holly cow, they were much bigger than normal house cats that they were when left there. The tranquilizers didn't work on the cat's. Page and Lani had to come up with something else. Page being there smarter one, or so she thinks, is adjusting the drones and tranquilizers. Lani did the human thing. It worked! Page didn't understand why? Humans are less then AI's and that is why Page made all the decisions. So what is better? Human or Machine?

A Familiar Story by Elektra Hammond *****
A Momma cat who was distrught, fell from a roof. An old lady saved her and she wasn't really and old lady, but a witch in disseize. The witch and cat was hired to prove that Diamonda was a fraud. Little did they know that exposing her would be so much fun for the cat. You wonder if a se'ance, tarot card reading, palm reading and so on are real. Well this story will give you some incite to that question. A good Halloween tale and cute story all around.

A Sudden Breeze Through An Open Door by Jeremy A. Gottwig *******
WOW! I have never read anything like this one before. This author is extraordinarily amazing and talented. She kept me on my toes racing to turn the page of the mystery. I am not going to tell about the story or style of writing. I feel that you as a reader must read this one to see for yourself. Trust me, you won't be disappointed at all. Out of all 16 short stories, this one is far by the most unusual written and my favorite one. I read it twice, once to myself and once to my cat Oliver. Our Favorite!

Mark of the Goddess by A.L. Kaplan *****
Maya lives in the deep dark jungle. She is different then everybody else. As she hides her defect, she comes into women hood with a few other girls. The Priests of their clan, hold sacrifices to a dark God. For the girls to pass into women hood, there has to be a sacrifice to this dark God, the Devil so to speak.
Maya is chosen because of her defect, that she tried so hard to keep hidden, just like her Father. She escapes into the jungle to hide. As she is hiding up in a tree, there is a big spotted cat looking down at her. Will this cat eat her or help her? As she prays for help to the Goddess, not the dark God, the cat approaches Maya. What happens after that reminds me of the Mayans and some of their ways. Good story!

King's of the Concrete Jungle by K.L. Borrowman ****

Cat survival tip #1, is stay high, tip #2 is shut up, and tip #3 is be quick. There are 7 Tips total for you to follow and be like a cat. Catspaw / A Deadly Curiousities Adventure by Gail Z. Martin ****
Revenge isn't all it's cracked up to be as Calvert found out. Out side an antique shop in the alley was a dead women covered in blood, but no wound's. She bled to death though. She was wearing a necklace and there was a mangey cat by her. A small group of magical friends found out that she wasn't the only one killed that way that night. As they tried to put the pieces together, they all had in common was the cat at their side when found and all of them testified against Calvert and sent him to jail.
He was out for revenge and tried to use magic as the killer. Magic in hand, he first bought the cat back from the dead. And nothing happened, so he tried again and again until it worked. But the magic he used had a price attached to it. Was it worth the price to Calvert? There is a lesson to be learned here.

Masquerade Night by Alex Shvartsman *****
This cat was a shape shifter who fell in love with a beautiful girl, but the girl wasn't what he thought. Feeling like he doesn't belong to the human world, he finally finds his place. It may not be this world or the next, but he did find where he belongs. People are made up of all colors, shape and sizes. But to look at them, you don't know how they are in the inside. The cat knew he was different and thought he had found true love. Another words - never judge a book by it's cover.

Another Man's Cure by Joanna Michal Hoyt ****
I'm not sure how this has to do with Gasper the cat, unless the stiss is a cat. I'm a little confused on that. But Gasper is a scientist cat and was left behind while he goes looking for his missing colleague.
This one is about forbidden fruit high on a mountain, science and curiosity. Only a fool would do all three and maybe live to tell their story. Curiosity killed the cat, is the saying, and the scientist may have proven that in this story. Why is it that the things that taste so good are always bad for you?

Nemesis by Jody Lynn Nye *****
This short story had to do with the balance of Heaven and Hell. The cat talked people out of doing wrong so they would go to heaven. But there always has to be one that thinks they are innocent and in the wrong place. The cat can scenes if the person is good or bad. The only way for this person to get out of hell, is for the cat to be wrong on her judgement. So the cat had to prove that she was right to send him to hell and he fell for it. Good Paranormal Story!

The Neighbors Cat by Gregory L. Norris *****
You never know what your neighbors are going to be like. Some you become friend's, some become family, some are nasty and some have a Meth Lab and practices black magic in their basement. So if you move into a new house, see if they have a cat and if they do invite it over for some tuna and ask what his master's are like. Only the cat of your neighbor's house can tell you what your neighbors are really like.

Grimmun by Oliver Smith ****
This short story I'm lost on. I think that the guy Grimmun is the grim reaper. As I understand it, he has come for a few sacrifices. The village is trying to find a way out of it. A cat does just that by eating a crow on his book of law. I don't understand what the king's underground have to do with any of this. I think this is also a Steampunk, not sure. Some time's it doesn't take much to make me lost and not understand a genera or a writers work. All in all, it was a good story. Sorry that I didn't get it.
In finishing, I really enjoyed this book of short stories. Good Writing! Amazing Author's! Great Story Line's! Good Pace! And Really Good Author's! This book has been #NerdGirlVal and Oliver the cat approved! *****
(***** = stars given for the story 5 highest - 1 lowest)
