Endurance & Resistance

This program is designed to activate the aerobic metabolism muscle fibers during the session. Program helps to establish or improve basic muscle endurance and is designed to increase the average intensity of muscle effort over that must be maintained over a long period of time. Designed to activate the anaerobic metabolism of the muscle, this program helps increase the time a muscle can maintain a higher work level. It is designed for sporting activities, which are characterized by a need for intense efforts to be maintained or repeated to approach the limit of muscle exhaustion.

Prewarm Up & Strength

Produces a muscle twitch. Runs at a low frequency and increases local blood flow, warming the muscle tissue, and increase reaction of the muscles prior to a workout or competition. Designed to help increase strength by imposing a high and instantaneous power working level on the muscles. It is specifically designed for sports characterized by a need for maximum but very brief strength contractions lasting 5-60s.

Training/active Recovery

The Compex Performance 2.0 Muscle Stimulator Kit with TENS is recommended for the fitness enthusiast and the athlete who engages in frequent competition. It features a total of 6 programs, with 5 levels of progression to help competitive athletes achieve the highest level of performance. The Endurance Program increases muscle capillarization and establishes a working regimen for oxidative power of endurance muscle fibers; targeting slow-twitch muscle fibers. The Resistance Program targets both slow and fast-twitch muscle fibers; building muscle size, strength and density. The Strength Program targets fast-twitch muscle fibers. This program increases sheer strength, and works the muscles at maximum power with less risk of injury to joints and tendons, with virtually no cardiovascular or mental fatigue. The Active Recovery Program does not contract the muscle. This program clears lactic acid, increases blood flow, promotes muscle relaxation and enables faster recovery. The Pre-Warm Up Program does not contract the muscle. It runs at a low frequency and increases blood flow and oxygenates the muscles prior to a workout or competition. The Compex Performance Muscle Stimulator kit includes a carrying case, battery charger, CD with user manual, electrode placement guidebook, and one set of 4 Easy Snap Electrode lead wires. This kit also includes 8 of the 2" x 2" Easy Snap Performance Electrodes and 4 of the 2" x 4" Easy Snap Performance Electrodes. Electrodes are the points where the pulses are transmitted to your motor nerves, and ultimately your muscle fibers. This device worked fantastically for me until the charging cable slot inside the unit wore down (this, I believe, is a systematic failure due to the way the safety mechanism works — it gradually rubs down the inside of the charging slot by applying torque on the charging cord). Now the unit is a brick, and a brick that Compex absolutely refuses to help with despite still being within the warranty period (!!!). I would strongly advise against purchasing — it’ll be great for a while, but trust me that the customer service and warranty does not befit the kind of money you’re paying.

No belt clip

I recently purchased a Compex Performance stim device. The unit did not come with a belt clip. Also, one of the small pads was defective. The metal electrode detached from the pad- rendering it useless.
The unit works excellent, but the cords are literally almost 6 feet long; and they get caught on everything if you’re moving around.
I’d gladly increase the rating if I had a belt clip for it. The electrode cam off the pad pretty easily.

Positive experience, a few complaints

I'm happy with the Compex Performance 2.0.

My background is heavily athletic. No formal training beyond extensive personal research.

Having recently had ACL reconstruction, I experienced difficulties with muscle activation of the quadriceps. The pathways just weren't there for activation no matter how hard I tried.

On using the unit the first time, the feeling was euphoric to have the quadriceps firing again. I used the Endurance program twice a day, mindfully flexing in conjunction with the unit.

I then incorporated the Endurance program with the prescribed physio exercises. I found I was able to get a deeper recruitment with each rep.

8 weeks post op now and I will use the unit before exercising in the Warm Up program and then after exercising in the Recovery program.

According to the physio therapist, I am 3-5 weeks ahead of schedule. I cannot say that the Compex unit was the sole reason for the advance, but I know it helped.

Complaints:

Charging... it never stops, nor does the battery level ever change. Whether plugged in for 10 seconds, or 10 hours, the unit will indicate it is charging. Conversely, when unplugging the unit, no matter if it has been plugged in for 10 seconds or 10 hours, it will then indicate that it is fully charged. This may be a faulty unit. It bugs the heck out of me, but it doesnt seem to effect it in any other way. I just leave it plugged in for 4 or 5 hours.

Programs.... I have tried to incorporate the programs into my 'normal' way of working out but the contraction phase is either too short or too long for normal repetitions, the rest phase too long or too short for a normal rest between reps. Either a static hold routine or superslow routine are the only way to really work with the units programs.

Manual.... The manual is useless.... Some general guidelines could be added into manual for incorporating the programs into work outs would be useful. There are videos out there online but I dont think the consumer should have to search YouTube in order to use their Compex unit.

Overall I am happy with the Compex Performance 2.0. I believe it has been beneficial to my ACL rehab. If nothing else it just feels good to have a deep contraction of the effected muscles.

I bought it about a month ago as a present. Opened it recently and on the second day of use, it stopped working. It keeps saying it gets disconnected in the middle of a training session, when there is no reason it should be getting disconnected. I've made an attempt to get in contact with the company via Amazon, as it takes special instructions to return it, so I will report back how it goes.

The pads are super expensive and you cannot buy a different brand pad they purposely made it so you have to buy theirs with this model you cannot adjust the flex time or the rest time the rest time is too high and there's not enough Flex time it is able to stimulate your muscles to flex pretty hard but not as good as my professional one could unfortunately it broke battery time is only going to last you one session about 34 minutes before you need to recharge it be smart buy one that actually has compatible pads of other brand names cuz they're pads also suck

I used this for the first time last night and it was a good experience. Device is easy to use and assemble, it's like playing an old handheld video game with it's 8-bit music sounds. I only used the TENs pain relieving setting, but it is very strong and easy to adjust the power level on the fly. Very easy to recharge too.

The biggest cons I would say are the pads which stick really well but you have to actually touch the pads to peel them off which I feel like diminishes the lasting integrity of their stickiness. My device did not come with the belt clip as I thought it would. I've only used one other TENs device which was an ICYHOT device from Wal-Mart which wasn't bad but it has nowhere near the power of COMPEX or ease of use buttons either, nor was it as versatile with pad placement. Of course that device was a lot cheaper so I don't have a lot to compare it to, I'll just say $140 was a lot to pay, but I'm ok with it. I hope it last me a long time.

Unit failed after a few uses

I had this great little machine and used it maybe 7 times max. Then stored it and just broke it out after my next surgery. It now has an error code that the company says it is having voltage issues and it’s unrepairable. Now it’s also out of warranty. So the solution…they want me to buy another $200 unit. Worked great when it worked but I didn’t even use up one set of electrodes and now it’s $200 of trash. Thanks Compex for nothing. I don’t have another $200. You should be able to store it properly and use it later.

Essential for rehabilitation and muscular pain

I purchased this after having used one with my physical therapist to treat my shoulder after surgery. This has several modes which gives it flexibility. I use this for my back and legs after mountain biking to relieve sore quads. The only complaints I've read on other reviews is that the pads may tear if you pull on the cables to disconnect them, and being the snap button type, it's harder to find aftermarket pads. I recommend buying the standard plug adapter if you have the other types of pads.
