About the Author
Review
"An almost incredible account of courageous men and women risking their lives as champions of Christianity...Everyone who reads this book will be unforgettably inspired."
-- "Norman Vincent Peale""Tension builds page by page in this remarkable true document...more thrilling than a spy story with its numerous near escapes and mounting climaxes of danger."
-- "Los Angeles Times"This story shows in its matter-of-fact style just how hard it was for people of faith to live behind the Iron Curtain. The events in this book are often beyond belief. [Simon Vance] does a splendid job reading this 'adventure.' His soft English accent brings out much of the author's humility, and wonder, in this journey.

As a boy, Brother Andrew dreamed of being an undercover spy working behind enemy lines. As a man he found himself working undercover for God. His was a mission filled with danger, financed by faith, supported by miracles.
Told it was impossible to minister behind the Iron Curtain, Andrew knew that nothing was too hard for God. Crossing "closed" borders, he prayed, "Lord, in my luggage I have Scripture I want to take to Your children. When You were on earth, You made blind eyes see. Now, I pray, make seeing eyes blind. Do not let the guards see those things You do not want them to see." And they never did.
For thirty-five years, Brother Andrew's life story has inspired millions to step out on their own journeys of faith. This young Dutch factory worker's near-incredible adventures testify of God's step-by-step guidance and hour-by-hour provision--available to all who follow His call.
Far from being over, Brother Andrew's current adventures are his most challenging yet. In a new prologue and epilogue, his story is carried into the new millennium with an account of Andrew's work in the "closed" societies of Islam. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Lord, may I love You and others with this kind of abandon. I was especially struck by he and his wife, Correy's willingness to sell their house to finance the printing of Bibles and Andrew's willingness to take the place of an Iranian / Hezbollah hostage. Neither sacrifice was needed or accepted, but they were authentically offered. That is Christian Love in action. Renovate our hearts, O Lord, to be completely Yours, TRUSTING You.
One day, Brother Andrew was saved from his sins, and was ready to live his life for Jesus. God had amazing plans for Brother Andrew, and these plans would change his life, and the lives of others in many different countries. Brother Andrew had a desire to bring God’s Word to others. Throughout this book, there are several trials and scary situations that Brother Andrew faced, but God lovingly guided him along the path He had set for him. This book is faith-building, eye-opening, and perfect for anyone who enjoys a little adventure mixed with a miraculous God-story.

If you don't believe in a God who is active in this world you won't like it you will have to dismiss it as delusional at best or active fraud at worst. The question I would ask those who dismiss it, how has he personally gained?
To the believer it is a great encouragement. It is in the pantheon of great testimonial books with Cross and the Switchblade, by David Wilkerson, Run, Baby, Run by Nicky Cruz, The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom and Jackie Pullinger, Chasing the Dragon.

We've had follow-up discussions about Communism, about evangelism, about refugees and hardships and propaganda, and all kinds of spin-off topics. But above all, we have seen through Brother Andrew that God is good, is reliable, is a provider, and speaks to people in the modern era in all kinds of different ways.
Trusting Him not only works for Brother Andrew, but worked for hundreds of thousands who were touched by his ministry.
(I understand the subsequent books of Brother Andrew's are more graphic and perhaps a bit too hard-bitten for reading with children; I have no reservations of reading this one to my children)

See how much fire and passion he and other Christians had. We read of a publication “Kracht van Ophoog” - Dutch for “Power from On High.”
How we need a fresh outpouring of Holy Spirit.
Read, be encouraged and challenged
Then rise to that challenge with Power from On High. 100% recommended!!!

"Time and place are our own limitations, Andy; we mustn’t impose them upon God."
