First this is a great read and hard to put down, as not only is the story interesting from the get go as an biography of sorts, it's also a peek behind the Iron Curtain...(This 1967 edition was out when this Iron curtain talk was more in play. I suppose later editions might have some updates I'm not aware of)... and a glimpse of just how free we are, and how little we take stock of that. The book provides a peek behind the mystery of how God works...as no doubt to some that's what it is...a mystery.As I read more books on personal experiences of Trusting God, it's becoming clear that though God works in different ways all the time, there is a common thread in the trust and faith people put in him that, to non christians might sound impossible, or astounding...but to the Followers...it rings true(as concerning how faith works). This book is a bit like a window in seeing just how God can work in this world. Not so much the delivering of stuff we can see and touch, but the behind the scenes stuff that God himself does. That's what's neat about this book as the author does a good job of letting you see God at work. It can help you in your faith walk as you can see it works in the big but also in the small and grows as you grow.There was even a bit of how God works though the non christian shown here the author was not aware of or showed little sign of grasping. (two helpers were caught with the bibles and they were in in plain sight and another person asked them if they were bibles and bribed the guards to get them. That made the bibles available to people he never would have been able to contact ... a whole new avenue he could not have found)The book really is a great read on a few levels and well worth a read to Christians and the Curious...not just for "religeous" stuff, but for just plain intreague, suspence, romance, brushes with fear, faith building...so many things. And it doesn't preach to people, it just tells a story of what happened and how it happened. Great stuff. I'd known about this book for a long time and finaly had a copy fall in my lap and I wasn't dissapointed. a great read on so many levels.It did peter out near the end as it would have been nice to have more information on the helpers he aquired and their stories, but then I guess the book had to end some time.
