About Roy Thomas
Roy William Thomas, Jr. (born November 22, 1940) is an American comic book writer and editor, who was Stan Lee's first successor as editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics. He is possibly best known for introducing the pulp magazine hero Conan the Barbarian to American comics, with a series that added to the storyline of Robert E. Howard's character and helped launch a sword and sorcery trend in comics. Thomas is also known for his championing of Golden Age comic-book heroes – particularly the 1940s superhero team the Justice Society of America – and for lengthy writing stints on Marvel's X-Men and Avengers, and DC Comics' All-Star Squadron, among other titles.
Thomas was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2011.

The greatest saga in sword-and-sorcery history begins! Born on a battlefield in the frozen lands of Cimmeria, Conan has spent his life fighting his way across the untamed Hyborian kingdoms — sparing no man, woman or wizard his wrath. His adventures will become legend. He will become king. He is - Conan the Barbarian! Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith brought Robert E. Howard's iconic creation to four-color life with work that set new standards for comic book storytelling. Now, Marvel is honored to present their epic sagas — painstakingly restored to match the majesty of the original editions. In these early exploits, Conan ventures from his homeland for the first time, honing his skills as a thief and mercenary — and above all, a warrior!
SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN, the cornerstone of Marvel's black-and-white magazine line, offered up stories of fiction's most famous barbarian unencumbered by the Comics Code! With the rules of civilized publishing cast off, SAVAGE SWORD presented ferocious, untamed tales the likes of which Conan himself would approve. Writer Roy Thomas and artistic greats including John Buscema and Neal Adams took full advantage - and the results were a sensation! Multi-part sagas like "The People of the Black Circle" luxuriate in extended tellings, while Buscema's take on "The Tower of the Elephant" explores the nuance of an all-time Robert E. Howard classic. And it's topped off with MARVEL COMICS SUPER SPECIAL #2, a tale of vengeance lavished with fully painted colors!
