Robin Monarch is a man with a complicated past and dangerous present. He's been a soldier, a CIA agent, a freelance operative but first and foremost, Robin Monarch is a thief of the highest order. Orphaned at twelve, Monarch originally stole for survival, then he stole for his friends and cohorts, now he steals to order, and to give back to the to the woman who saved his life many years ago.
With the help of his team, Monarch breaks into the legendary Christmas party of Beau Arsenault, a shady investor and behind-the-scenes player at the very highest levels of power politics. Arsenault is not above bending or breaking the rules if there's illicit profit to be made. Monarch has decided that those illicit profits will be better used to take care of orphans and street kids. Using the party as cover to break into Arsenault's secret vaults, Monarch comes away with two unexpected things. One is a bullet―he gets shot when he's caught trying to escape with tens of millions of negotiable instruments. The second is a lead on what might be his most audacious exploit ever. A previously undiscovered tribe in South America may well have the secret to the most sought after knowledge in history―that of eternal life. And Robin Monarch must use all his skills―as an operative, as a thief―to keep this secret from falling into the worst possible hands.

It is, however, not a perfect book. The first problem is that the writing seems more hackneyed and formulaic than in his other novels. The second is his jaw-dropping mis-characterization of the geography of Buenos Aires. He repeatedly makes it a city surrounded by mountains and creates major scenes in these mountains! Anyone with a clue knows that the city is entirely flat and surrounded for very long distances in every direction by flat land (or water). Has he confused it with Rio de Janeiro or Santiago, Chile? It's equivalent to setting scenes in the "mountains" around, say, Miami. Such bad research undermines the credibility of the writing.
Robin Monarch is no angel, a thief with a history that makes him a really rich, interesting character. He is surrounded with friends that sometimes jump off the pages as well. The stories are thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This latest book is no exception. At first I kind of thought the story was a little ...odd maybe, not sure where it was going. But I kept reading, got hooked, sat back and enjoyed the ride.
I found Mr. Sullivan through a book he co-wrote with James Patterson. I had kind of given up on James Patterson, but when he started co-writing, I decided to check the authors out. I am so glad I did, I have discovered writers new to me. Mr. Sullivan is one of those, and it has been a good find.
I look forward to the next Robin Monarch book and if you have not read the others in the series, I think there is enough back story that you would enjoy this one. I promise though, you will want to go back and catch up on the others.
