Jeff Strand's bio was funnier when he talked about losing the Bram Stoker Award four times, but he's now a Bram Stoker Award WINNER!

His novels are usually classified as horror, but they're really all over the place, almost always with a great big dose of humor. He's written five young adult novels that all fall into the "really goofy comedy" category.

Several of his books are in development as motion pictures, and he's mostly not allowed to blab any details, which he finds MADDENING.

He lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee with his wife and one gigantic freaking cat.

Absolutely loved the story. The plot sucked me in from the first line, and never let me go. This needs to be made into a movie ASAP, and I'm not saying that to be ironic!
The characters, without giving away any spoilers, were well rounded, real and believable. I was especially fond of the wannabe actor... The remorseless director, whilst not having a huge part, was immediately dislikable but essential to moving the plot forward, on its blood-fuelled, relentless march to the climatic ending.
Once again, and I'll say this loudly for any production companies out there, this would make the perfect 'slasher' flick. The next 'Scream' franchise. Buy it now!

Strand’s latest novella is set up like an online blog review, telling the history of an obscure 20 year-old slasher film and the events surrounding a screening in which an ardent fan went a bit overboard.

Looking at obsessed fans, horror con culture and, of course, an anniversary screening that may not be the greatest idea, horror film geeks are sure to laugh out loud a few times as Strand delivers a tribute to movie fans that’s as gruesome as it is darkly comic. In other words, fans of the author (and horror comedies) should leave this screening quite satisfied.

During its initial 1991 run, an audience member at a theater in Cincinnati was killed when another audience member, a disgruntled loner, tried to perpetrate a massacre during a showing. In 2001, three different people are inspired with the same goal, and attempt do the massacre right.

I can't say much as this book is only a little over 90 pages. I will say this was a quick, fun slasher told through a unique format. You are reading an article about a massacre that happens at the twentieth anniversary screening of a slasher movie called The Roofer.
While this is a very short read, it really packs a punch. I was leaning more toward 3.5 stars for a little bit, and then the twist happened. If you like mixed media formats, and slasher horror then I think you will like this novella.

Another good one if you like Strand's mix of violent horror, off-kilter humour, and very desperate people finding themselves doing stupid things. (One standout being the cinema-owner saying to the interviewer: " "How many movies make it to their twentieth anniversary?" When informed that every single film over twenty years old makes it to their twentieth anniversary, Bloomington said: "That was a dumb thing to say and I realised it as soon as I blurted it out."")

The plot manages to get in a plausible bad film, throw in the obviously shameless attempt to cash in on a real murder, and escalate the upcoming murders - instead of building dread, the buildup to the massacre is a building farce. There's also a sharp edge in the mockumentary format, as our writer is both condemning the shameless exploitation of a real murder for money while hoping you donate money if you liked his article about a real murder.
