For years, I'd heard the story of Jim Elliot's death and how his wife became a writer and speaker around the world, but I'd never seen any of the movies about them, read any of her books, or heard her speak, so I began reading this book with very little knowledge of either of them, as individuals.

I'm not usually a big fan of biographies, but this book was chosen by one of the members of my book club, and, boy, am I glad she chose it!!

It was absolutely wonderful to read about Betty’s early years, and have her journal entries flesh out how she saw herself, regardless of how others saw her, especially as she worked through how to handle the early years after Jim's death.

The author, Ms. Vaughn, did an excellent job describing Betty's "character arc," so to speak, from a cerebral American-culture oriented Christian to a very, truly, down-to-earth, experienced intuitive Christian, who didn't lose the thinking part of her personality, but to whom God added wisdom, hard-won wisdom, that has blessed future generations of people groups all over the world!

This is one biography I will never forget, and one I will be recommending to others for years to come!
