a very engaging book about a true hero

Funny thing: at first I did not like this book, finding Aaron Brown's drug addiction not that appealing. But I kept reading and after 50 pages could not put it down. Here is a man who battled his own demons for years, but yet managed to train himself to become a Navy SEAL which only around .01 percent of males could do. And yet he did it despite overcoming all manner of serious injuries: broken arms, legs, fingers, even losing an eye (an eye!) in a training accident and yet he managed to become a sniper despite these severe handicaps. And as anyone who has read either Chris Kyle or Brandon Webb, there is no more challenging calling in our armed forces that becoming a Navy SEAL sniper requiring not only unreal physical and mental stamina but also tremendous intellectual capacity as well. And Aaron Brown was one of those rare men-who also wore BatMan underwear into battle! How cool is that? He was also a devoted father to his children and a great husband to his wife, who is also one of the heroines of our time

He died doing what he most loved-saving his brother soldiers-and America is the luckier for having troopers such as Aaron Brown in their midst. Get this book and read it!

Adam is a hero, the author not so much

I enjoyed the story of Adam, and learning how much he overcame was incredible. However the book was written very poorly, it is dry and flavorless. They talk about how great Adam was but the stories of him are written in a way that are just not interesting to read about. Plus the constant need to talk about the family’s relationship with god felt like they were trying to convert me to their religion.

I REALLY liked American Sniper, and for some reason expected this book to be writing in a captivating interesting way like that one was, however I was disappointed. 5 stars for Adam himself and 0 stars to the actual book.

I read it because of his deep feelings, but I'm not a fan of books about war. I do sincerely thank all who have served. I am also indebted to those who have given the greatest sacrifice of their lives to keep us free.

This was an easy read, but yet still captivating. Adam's story is one that really comes full circle and during that journey he hits rock bottom. The only real problem I had with this book is that the author went way out of his way to keep specifics generic and to try not to disclose any classified information. However, in that process a lot of detail was left out. If you read any of these stories about the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Meaning, this information that was omitted in this book is readily available in others. As a result, the lack of detail not only made this a short read, but ultimately detracted from Adam Brown's story. I have to say though, Adam's wife Kelley sounds like an amazingly strong and determined woman. Her story is worthy of its own book.

The content of this book is very good, I enjoyed reading about Adam's life. But I thought the way it was presented was done rather poorly. The author should have just told the story like authors usually do. Instead, he constantly referenced, "So and so said this", "so and so told me this". It almost read like a research paper rather than a book.

Its was a good book, unpredictable at times and exciting. I thought it was a bit long winded and lacked great detail of all the heroic actions that he earned his medals from. Not that its a bad thing but it has alot of preaching for god, but as you read the book you will understand thats the way he would have wanted it.
