Too many characters with two many names each, and too many plots.

I've had a good deal of trouble following the story line. The most consistent annoyance is the author's decision to
1) give one of the reporter characters the nickname "News". To me, "news" is a common noun that I tend to drift over -- so I have to reread most paragraphs to make any sense out of them;
2) to use 3 descriptors of a character: first name alone, last name alone, and then a nickname. It is hard enough to keep track of characters in a novel/mystery, without having to memorize 3 or more identifiers for each character; and
3) the story is choppy and flips from one character in a situation to another character that is involved in another plot line.....I think. I still am reading it, but that is only because I don't like to put down a book with finishing it unless it is filled with typos and grammar glitches.
