I’m a substitute teacher. I started to read this book while at school one day and couldn’t stop reading it. Great book for teens that like action, adventure, and fantasy. Looking forward to reading the next book.
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS This was a fun quick read that can be finished in a week or two, depending how often/fast you read it, and I'm generally a slow reader than most. I'll try not to spoil too much, but I've put a warning as a precaution. Below is a summary. Shiva's an average dog thrust into supernatural situations. After being magically transformed, she's thrust into a position where's a new creature and "no longer man's best friend." Humans and their "protectors," dragons, would love nothing more than to see her dead. The story then follows Shiva trying to come to terms with her new psionic-like powers and determine who the real bad guy is in this war. Admittedly, it was a slow start, but I grew to enjoy it. THE GOOD -likable characters (Myst, Luke, Jericho) - some mild humor from the one character in particular -unique setting unlike I've seen before. (Dragons v. Demi-wolves) -interesting lore (creation magic, etc.) -a cute and clean love sub-plot between Shiva and another of her kind. THE BAD -slow build-up for me where I struggled to emphasize with Shiva for a bit. It took time for me to grow to like her.
I enjoyed this book and when I wasn't finished with it I still wanted to find the time to read more to finish it. I don't normally read this type of book (fantasy), but already looking forward to the next book and what might happen to Shiva in the future.
